Infratec is serving as the design engineer for the City of Carrollton's improvements to their 12-mgd water treatment plant. In order to enhance finished water quality and safety and to increase consumer confidence, the City elected to integrate membrane filtration into their water treatment process. Infratec's services included membrane manufacturer evaluation and selection, a pilot plant study and preparation of the design development report, conceptual plan, final design, and bidding assistance. This project is a major renovation of the existing Carrollton water treatment plant which utilizes ten dual media filters. Four membrane trains will be installed within the structure of four existing dual media filters. The remaining six dual media filters will be used for manganese removal prior to the membrane units, with the capability to also be used as biologically active filters to remove organics from settled water. Design provisions have been made for the future installation of ultraviolet disinfection units.
